People and companies are starting to realize that social media isn’t “free.” There is a lot of time and effort involved and the opportunity costs can add up. So the next question is when is the best time to post to the different social media sites so you can get the biggest bang for your efforts?

Many different groups have done studies on this and I have read many articles on it and ultimately it will depend on your target audience and when they are using their social media sites and you will want to track your own data as that will be the most accurate, but here are a few things I found from different sites:

  • The best time to post on Facebook is between 1pm and 4pm and Thursday and Friday are best. They receive the highest click through rates at that time. It seems that when people don’t want to work is the best time to post. It makes me think of that old Emerald Nuts commercial when Robert Goulet would mess with your stuff around 3pm. If you don’t remember that commercial, you can view it on Youtube through this link here:

  • Tweet your heart out Monday thru Thursday from 1pm-3pm or on Weekends. This data seems to be everywhere and I found one study that showed higher engagement during the week and one on weekends. You are going to have to test to find your best time, but this should get you started.

  • Best time is between Tuesdays and Thursdays and now I am hearing Sundays because people check LinkedIn before they go to bed on Sunday or right when they get to the office on Monday. Your audience may be different so you are going to want to watch that carefully and test a few different times to start out.

  • The best time to pin is on Saturday morning from what I found, but again your customers may be online at different times so you may want to test a time or two to see how it works.

There isn’t a one size fits all for every company and the answer isn’t simple, but nothing in marketing is. Marketing is part art and part science so make sure you use some science to make sure your great posts, pins, and tweets break through to your audience.
